Mei Voyageur Travel Pack
Mei is one of the most elusive backpack companies out there as their internet presence is nearly non existant. You will find a couple of pics of their packs here and there and occasionally find one for sale on ebay. Other than that there is not much information about them. The only thing that you hear about is how good they are. Despite that these packs seem hard to obtain they have quite a following among minimalist carry on travelers and backpackers alike.
A favorite of the carry on traveler is the Mei Voyageur. It is a simple pack with a single main compartment and a front pocket. It is convertible and has an amazingly comfortable harness system, internal frame, and plenty of adjustments. It is made of Cordura and is tough enough to handle most travel situations. I have been using mine now for about 3 months for business trips.
In backpack mode it is comfortable and has plenty of padding in all the right places. In suitcase mode it looks upscale enough for any hotel that I might visit. Is it not too big and not too small. It carries everything that I need for any length of trip.
Features:
Meets FAA carry-on requirements
VOLUME: 3000 cubic inches
Parallel stay internal frame
Hide Away shoulder harness and hip belt
Rubber side handle, web opposing side and top handles, D-rings for optional shoulder sling
Interior compression straps
1000 denier Cordura®

It seems www.meipacks.com is down. Has anyone seen it online recently, or does anyone know where to buy in Australia?
Meipacks.com does appear to be down. You might want to check out www.meivoyageur.com
First of all, wonderful site. It’s been a big help in narrowing down a bag, and while those Redoxx monsters look lovely, I’m on a tight budget.
I’ve come down to the Mei Voyageur, or the Ebags Weekender Convertible ( http://www.ebags.com/ebags/weekender_convertible/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=15026 )
Do you have any experience with the latter?
The Weekender is $50 shipped on sale, versus the $170 shipped of the Voyageur. They look like extremely similar bags, the Weekender is more compartmentalized including a dirty clothes mesh net.
My only worry is that it won’t hold up during my travels (planning 3 months in SE Asia followed by 3 months in Europe, I’m sure there will be more later). The on-site reviews are quite positive, but I’ll be darned if I can find an independent review of it on the web!
Thank you very very much for your time.
Respectfully,
George
My dad is the former president for MEI, Paul Honkavaara, and the current president is a family friend so if anybody has any questions (contact information?), you can e-mail me at jhonkavaara@yahoo.com
Hope to help!!
I just wanted to give a heads up that I’ve been having troubles with meivoyageur.com. While the one time I spoke to a gentleman at the company, he was very polite, it’s been about 3 months since I’ve placed my order and it has not yet been fulfilled, nor have I been able to get a response to my phone calls or emails. Has any person recently received the MEI voyageur?
