After spending a week with the air boss I am pleased to say that the bag met and exceeded my expectations. It proved to be rugged, well made, and dependable. The air boss is comfortable, easy to carry, and it held everything that I needed for a week long trip with plenty of room to spare.
The air boss is simple and functional. It is perfect for the lightweight traveler who needs a reliable carry-on that is versatile and looks professional. However it works equally well for business or leisure travel. It is available in 12 color combinations.
Packing the air boss was straight forward and intuitive. The 3 compartment design works quite well. The two external compartments are designed to carry your clothing. They have internal compression straps that keep the load in place and wrinkle free. There was enough room to carry all of my clothing in just one of the compartments.
The middle compartment is padded with 4 lb closed cell foam. It is roomy and easily held my laptop with a cord and extra battery, camera, Ipod, sandals and my toiletry bag. The padded compartment does add some protection to your things but I recommend keeping your laptop in a sleeve like the Stm rebound or Jandd cap.
The air boss has a shoulder strap which is one of the nicest and most comfortable that I have ever used. It is known as “The Claw” because of how well it grips onto your shoulder and does not slip. It does not have a lot of padding, nor does it need it. I liked it enough that I have ordered one for my personal carry on bag. The air boss also has a nylon handle for the times when you need to carry it in your hand.
Red Oxx’s attention to detail is immaculate. The hardware on the air boss is overbuilt and is sure not to break or corrode as it is made of stainless steel. The shoulder strap mounts to steel d-rings that are attached to the bag with nylon webbing that is double box stitched for strength. All of the zippers are extra heavy-duty # 10 Ykk models. The bag itself is made of 1000 weight coated Dupont Cordura that is double stitched and bound together with heavy-duty nylon thread. Even the Luggage tag is heavy duty.
Red Oxx and Doug Dyment did a wonderful job designing the air boss. It does everything that a carry-on is meant to and it does it better than many of the bags on the market.
It will not fall apart or break. It comes with a Lifetime warranty. It is made in the USA, Montana to be specific. It is truly a top of the line bag made for the demanding traveler who wants the best that they can buy. I see the air boss as an investment. You might as well put it in your will as it is going to last a very long, long, time. This Justifies the $225 price tag.
